SILENT SLEEP
Two wonderful experiences came my way in 2013. Firstly, the Liverpool Football Club came to play a historic friendly fixture in Melbourne, Australia. Secondly, the iconic Anfield Wrap commemorated the LFC visit by recording their show before 2000 football fans at the Hilton Hotel in Melbourne.
My band Waiting Room played at that event at the Hilton as did the marvellous Chris McIntosh, the multi-instrumentalist who is the heart and soul of Silent Sleep. Chris invited me to play with him on his song Meet Me on the Steps of the Bombed Out Church. To this day I have this moving, joyous, apology to mothers playing on high rotation. My love of this particular song was heightened when Chris recently posted a cleverly conceived and filmed clip of the song on You Tube.
But this fantastic song is only just the beginning of a expansive repertoire developed over 4 years, 3 ep’s, and one album with a second on the way. Chris has gifted his song IT BREAKS ME, from the album WALK ME TO THE SEA, for your enjoyment.

The Guardian (UK) described the album WALK ME TO THE SEA as being, “Beautiful yet melancholic, Silent Sleep take you on an autobiographical journey of love and loss, through honest, heartfelt melodies.”
For his just completed second album Chris assembled an all-star cast of friends and musicians borrowed from some of Liverpool’s finest bands was assembled including members of Wave Machines, Dan Croll, Bird, Voo, The Wombats, Vasco da Gama,Puzzle and Kill The Young. This album promises an even richer buffet of instrumentation and the songs, in Chris’ own words, “have taken on a more accomplished, more coherent form, written for the purpose of the album as opposed to the first record, which was more of a compilation of songs written over a long period of time.”
SILENT SLEEP is a band that deserves widespread attention and recognition. I hope these samples have piqued your interest enough to fully explore all that the band has to offer.
